Officers name victim of Lewisham murder

Detectives investigating the death of a woman in Lewisham have named her.

While formal identification has not yet taken place, officers are confident she is Zhe Wang, a Chinese national who was studying in London. She was aged 31. Her next of kin are aware and are being supported by specially trained officers.

An investigation was launched after we were called shortly before 23:15hrs on Wednesday, 20 March to reports of a stabbing at an address in Manor Park, SE13.

Officers responded with paramedics and forced entry to the address.

A woman, now confirmed as Zhe Wang, was found injured inside. Despite the efforts of emergency services, she died at the scene a short time later.

Joshua Michals, 24 (08.09.99), a US national of Deals Gateway SE13, was charged with murder on Friday, 22 March.

He appeared in custody at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Saturday, 23 March.

He then appeared at the Central Criminal Court on Wednesday, 26 March. The next hearing will be on Wednesday, 11 June. A trial is set for January 2025.

Police believe the defendant and victim were known to each other.
