Officers recognised for their dedication to public service in King's Birthday Honours
Officers and staff from across the Met have been recognised for their dedication to public service and improving the safety of Londoners.
Those awarded have had careers that ranged from officers providing support to survivors of domestic abuse, to targeting gang related and gun crime, and senior officers responsible for overseeing the protection of public figures during the Platinum Jubilee and the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King’s Police Medal is awarded to members of the police service for especially distinguished records including specific services of conspicuous merit.
The Royal Victorian Order is an award bestowed directly by the Sovereign to recognise loyal service to the monarchy.
Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said:
“My warmest congratulations go to all those recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.
“It is a window into how the Met delivers for Londoners and nationally, from protecting women and girls, to tackling domestic abuse and street gangs.
“These awards are very special and I know every recipient and their families take huge pride in them.”
Among the recipients are:
Inspector Keith Murphy - Member of the Royal Victorian Order
Awarded by the Sovereign, independent of government, to recognise loyal service to the Monarchy.
Security Officer Peter David Wilson – Royal Victorian Medal Silver
Awarded by the Sovereign, independent of government, to recognise loyal service to the Monarchy. He said:
“After working for the Met for over 50 years both as a Police Officer and currently Police Staff this award is the icing on the cake.
“I am extremely proud and honoured to be awarded this medal from HM the King in recognition of my 33 years working in the Royalty and Specialist Protection Department.”
Detective Inspector Phillip Carruth – King’s Policing Medal
Awarded for a 30 year policing career, including his work tackling and removing firearms from the streets of London. He said:
“I’m honoured and humbled and would like to dedicate this award to my parents, family and colleagues, some no longer with us, who have supported and encouraged me over the years.”
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Helen Millichap – King’s Policing Medal
Awarded for overseeing protective security operations during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the funerals of the Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth II, and the management of the Met’s response to tackling Violence against Women and Girls.
Detective Sergeant Viran Wiltshire – King’s Policing Medal
Awarded for her leading role in tackling domestic abuse and providing support for victims and survivors. She said: “I feel overwhelmed and emotional, this is a very special moment in my life. Thank you for this recognition.”
PC David Yansen – King’s Police Medal
Awarded for his work tackling high profile gang violence within Southwark.
Jillian Boundy – British Empire Medal
Inspector Len Stevenson (Met Special Constabulary) - British Empire Medal
