Police appeal for witnesses after cyclist dies in collision
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a cyclist was killed in a collision.
Around 06:55hrs on Friday, 21 November, officers attended Old Kent Road, SE1, alongside the London Ambulance Service, after a car collided with a cyclist near the junction with Dunton Road.
The 34-year-old cyclist was treated at the scene. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly died. His next of kin have been informed, and are being supported by specially-trained officers.
The driver of the car involved - a 68-year-old man – failed to stop at the scene. He was traced by police a short while later, and arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "An investigation is underway, and officers are working to establish what happened.
“I’m appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or who may have captured footage of it on their dashcam, to please contact us as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to call the Serious Collision Unit on 0207 1750754 or via 101 quoting CAD 1109/21NOV.
