Police release CCTV images after woman assaulted by intruder in Westminster

Police have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to after a woman was assaulted by an intruder who tried to force his way into her home.

The incident occurred at an address in New Cavendish Street, Westminster, on Wednesday, 30 July.

Around 23:40hrs, the victim encountered a person unknown to her in the corridor of her apartment building. After challenging him, the man followed her into her flat, where he placed his hand over her mouth and tried to force his way in.

The victim’s partner – who was inside the flat – chased the intruder off before he could enter the property.

As part of a public appeal, the police have released CCTV images of the suspect. The suspect is described as white, 5ft9in and balding, wearing a grey t-shirt and blue jeans. He was also later filmed wearing a brown hoody. The victim describes him as speaking with a non-British accent – possibly Australian, Kiwi or Scandinavian.

Detective Constable Chunjie Zang, from the Met’s Central West Borough Command Unit, said: “This was a highly alarming incident, which has left the victim and her family in distress.

“Nobody should face such a threat in their own home. We can confirm that no similar incidents have been reported in the area, but we are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice.

“Can you help?”
