Teen convicted of possession of firearm with intent after Met investigation

A teenager who shot a 15-year-old boy in Hackney has been sentenced to 11 years in jail after a comprehensive investigation by Met detectives.

On Thursday, 25 May at around 2020hrs, a 15-year-old boy and his friends were walking together on Garden Place, E8, when they were approached by Kamaree Jeffrey who was wearing a balaclava and riding an e- bike.

Jeffrey, aged 19, asked the group if they were members of a local gang. In fear of either violence or robbery, the group attempted to run from Jeffrey. Following this, Jeffrey raised a gun in his hand, pointed it at the fleeing group and fired a shot, at the same time warning them to stay out of the area.

The shot fired by Jeffrey hit a 15-year old boy in the leg. The boy was taken to an east London hospital where his injuries, although requiring surgery, were thankfully not life threatening.

An investigation was launched by detectives at the Met’s Specialist Crime Trident North East Command.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Ireland said: “This was a unprovoked attack on a group of innocent youngsters.

“My Trident teams work in conjunction with local policing teams to prioritise the removal of lethal barrelled firearms, and those who carry or manufacture them, from the streets of London. I am pleased that Kamaree Jeffrey is no longer a danger to innocent members of the public.

“I also hope that the sentence brings some comfort to the victim and his family, in the knowledge that justice has been served.”

Following a protracted investigation by North East Trident, Kamaree Jeffrey was arrested on 18 July 2023 at his home address. He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.

Kamaree Jeffrey, 19 [16.10.04] of Hackney, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court for trial on 22 January 2024. The jury found him guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and Section 18 grievous bodily harm.

On Monday, 5 August he was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to 11 years imprisonment for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and four years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm [to run concurrently]. He will also be placed on extended licence for four years upon his release.
