Two brothers jailed for stabbing and double shooting in Brent after 'meticulous' officers track their stolen vehicle for 27 miles
Two brothers who carried out a stabbing and double shooting in Brent have been brought to justice after a meticulous investigation in which officers tracked their stolen vehicle for over 27 miles.
Jahni Thomas, 30 (23.05.94) and Jahmarley Thomas, 26 (25.07.98); who are both from Brent, were both convicted at Isleworth Crown Court in December 2022 of two counts of attempted murder; one count of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life and one count of possession of points and blades.
On Friday, 1 December 2023 Jahmarley Thomas was sentenced to a total of 34 years’ imprisonment, with a further three to be served on licence.
The sentencing for Jahni was adjourned until Friday, 8 November. He was sentenced to 35 years’ imprisonment, with a further three to be served on licence.
The jury heard that shortly before 05:30hrs on 6 November 2021, police were called to reports of a stabbing and shots fired on Standard Road, NW10.
Police, including firearms officers, attended the scene and found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and a stab wound to the back. He was taken by LAS to hospital where his injuries, although initially serious, were deemed not life threatening following treatment.
Another man, aged 31, also sustained a gunshot wound to his hand and was taken to hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Detectives immediately began enquiries and found that the vehicle used in the incident was stolen and on cloned plates.
They tracked the vehicle on CCTV for over three hours and 27 miles as it drove around north west London.
These CCTV enquiries established that two hours before the attack, the brothers attended Standard Road, NW10, to conduct a reconnaissance of the area and to make sure that their target was present.
They then returned two hours later where they lay in wait for their victim to leave a nightclub.
As he did so, they ambushed their victim from behind, stabbing him once and shooting him in the left shoulder. The gunman then ran to a second male who was attempting to take cover in a vehicle.
The gunman opened the car door and at point blank range, fired the gun a second time.
The second victim raised his left hand to protect himself. The bullet went through his hand and a jacket that was wrapped around it, and hit him in the chest, causing bruising.
After the shooting the brothers drove back to their home address and later moved the vehicle to Springfield Gardens NW9 where it was burned out.
Detective Constable Tom Harris of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said: “This so easily could have been a murder investigation. The fact that nobody was killed was pure luck.
“The Thomas’ actions were premeditated and planned, with no consideration for the safety of bystanders who may have unwittingly been caught up in the shootings.
“The sentences handed down to the brothers demonstrates the danger they pose and I hope that the victims find a measure of closure in knowing that they have been taken off our streets for a considerable time.”
