UPDATE: Officers name victim of Streatham murder

Detective investigating the murder of a man in a fire in Streatham have named the victim.

Basilio Dos Santos Antonio, 49, was found dead inside a residential property on Glenister Park Road on the evening of Sunday, 25 February.

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: “Basilio, who was originally from Brazil, had been in the UK for a number of years and worked as a cleaner.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends as they continue to come to terms with their loss.”

Two people have been charged in connection with Basilio’s death:

Mayara Loiola Ataide, 34 (07.08.89) and Gevaldo Tavares Dos Santos, 46 (13.10.77), both of no fixed address, were charged with murder on Wednesday, 28 February.

They were also charged with two counts of arson with intent to endanger life.

Both appeared in custody at the Old Bailey on Friday, 1 March where they were further remanded in custody. A trial date has been set for 2 January 2025.

An investigation was launched after police were called to a multi-occupancy house on Glenister Park Road by the London Fire Brigade at 19:07hrs on Sunday, 25 February.

Basilio Dos Santos Antonio was found dead inside the property. His next of kin were informed and continue to be supported by family liaison officers.
