Appeal after burglary at jewellery shop in Shepherd's Bush

Officers are appealing for information after a jeweller's shop was burgled in Shepherd's Bush.

Police were called at 03:31hrs this morning, Thursday, 29 January, to reports that several men were trying to gain access to the shop in Uxbridge Road using various tools, including a sledgehammer.

Officers were on scene in three minutes and detained one of the men as he tried to flee on a moped.

Police officers were threatened with a hammer by another suspect. They were not injured.

A number of suspects made off from the scene on mopeds and remain outstanding. They are believed to have stolen high-value jewellery.

A 33-year-old man who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of aggravated burglary remains in police custody.

Detective Superintendent Alex Bingley, from the Met's Central West command unit, said:

"Quick work by our officers meant we were on the scene within minutes and able to interrupt the thieves.

"I'd like to thank the response officers first on the scene, who were threatened with a weapon.

"We know that incidents like this cause significant concern for businesses and residents, but we would like to reassure the public that we are working at pace to identify all those involved in this burglary.

"We'd appeal to anyone with information about the burglary or who has CCTV or dash cam video to get in touch with the police."
