Appeal for information after collision in Stanmore left a child critically ill

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic incident in Honeypot Lane, Stanmore on the morning of Sunday, 25 January.

At around 08:30hrs a 10-year-old boy was hit by a car while crossing the road on his scooter. The child was treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, before being taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver - a 28-year-old man - stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been interviewed under caution and bailed.

Officers are now asking the public to share any information in relation to the incident. They are particularly interested in receiving footage of the black Volkswagen Golf GTI, which was involved in the collision, between 08:15hrs and 08:35hrs on Sunday morning.

Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Unit, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with this young boy and his loved ones at this very difficult time.

“A family had their lives turned upside down during a Sunday morning walk and our team are now working around the clock to piece together what happened. It’s imperative we gather as much evidence as we can to ensure we can build the full picture of the incident, and are encouraging anyone who can help to come forward and talk to us.”

Those with information can contact the Met on 101, or the Serious Collision Investigation Unit directly through 0207 960 8044, quoting 1714/25JAN.
