Ealing man sentenced to life after murdering his wife

A man has been given a life sentence after killing his wife in a brutal knife attack in their home in Ealing earlier this year.

Mugurel Nica, 51 (10.03.1974) of Jubilee Road, Perivale was found guilty for the murder of Ana Maria Murariu at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 September.

He was sentenced today, Wednesday, 1 October, at the same court to life in prison, with a minimum of 21 years.

Detective Inspector Richard Kempshall, who led the investigation, said:

“Ana Maria was a victim of appalling domestic violence. She leaves behind four children, whose bravery and strength throughout the investigation and trial has been remarkable. We hope today’s sentence offers a meaningful step towards their healing.

“I would like to once again extend my heartfelt thanks to the responding police officers, who detained Nica and attempted to save Ana Maria’s life. The professionalism and courage displayed by them was of the highest standard.

“It is our hope that anyone else suffering such violence may consider reaching out and asking for help when they hear of Ana Maria’s story.

“If you or anyone you know is a victim of domestic abuse call 111 for support from police. If there's an emergency that's ongoing or life is in danger, call 999 immediately.”

Police were responded to a 999 call made by a family member at 01:40hrs on Friday, 28 February to a house on Jubilee Road, Perivale. On arrival officers found and arrested Nica.

Ana Maria was also found at the address in a critical condition – CPR was carried out by officers in an effort to save her life before paramedics arrived. She died at the scene as a result of her stab wounds.

After being arrested at the scene, Nica was charged with murder on Saturday, 1 March.
