Fifth boy charged following Old Kent Road fatal stabbing

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of Yeray Sanchez-Morales, aged 17.

He is the fifth person to be charged in connection with the fatal stabbing on Old Kent Road.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with murder, grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 11 September.

Police were called to Old Kent Road SE1 at 22:47hrs on Wednesday, 27 August by the London Ambulance Service after reports of a stabbing. At the scene they found two boys, both aged 17, with stab wounds.

Yeray was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition. On Wednesday, 3 September he sadly died. The other boy has since been discharged from hospital.

Four other boys have been charged in connection with the incident.

On Thursday, 4 September a 15-year-old boy was charged with murder, grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. A separate 16-year-old boy was arrested on Friday, 5 September for the same offences and charged on Saturday, 6 September. On Sunday, 7 September two 17-year-olds were arrested and charged with the same offences.

The 15-year-old appeared at the Old Bailey while the other 4 all appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 8 September.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened outside a busy McDonalds on Old Kent Road to come forward, including anyone who was driving and may have dash cam footage.
