Five men convicted for killing a young man in Walworth

A relentless pursuit for justice has seen five men convicted of murdering a young man in Walworth in a violent attack.

Giovanny Rendon Bedoya, who was aged 21, was fatally stabbed in south London in April 2025 following a rise in tensions between two groups.

Following a comprehensive investigation led by officers from the Met all five defendants appeared at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 14 April , where a jury returned guilty verdicts for murder after a 11-week trial.

Detectives said the convictions demonstrated the Met’s focus on tackling serious violence and taking dangerous offenders off London’s streets.

Those convicted were:

Joseph Jimenez, 22, (14.08.03) of no fixed address

Angel Gonzalez Angulo, 19, (24.08.06) of Camberwell Church Street, SE5

Bryan Villada Hernandez, 20, (26.02.06) of Langdale Close, SE17

Zozoro Mohamed Olivier Boizo, 21, (14.10.04) of Lorrimore Square, SE17

Christian Batista Gonzalez, 22, (02.10.03) of Moyers Road, E10

Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who led the investigation, said: “This was a sustained and extremely violent attack, carried out by a group acting together.

“Giovanny was chased and killed in brutal circumstances, and today’s convictions reflect the strength of the evidence and the determination of the investigation team. Our thoughts remain with Giovanny’s family and loved ones, who have shown immense dignity throughout these proceedings.

“Such brutality has no place on our streets – it rips families and communities apart. That’s why the Met is doing everything it can to target dangerous offenders and prevent senseless violence.”

The investigation

Police were called at 21:16hrs on Monday, 14 April 2025 to reports of a group fighting with knives in the Walworth area, near to Hillingdon Street and Langdale Close, SE17.

Officers located Giovanny behind residential flats on Hillingdon Street with multiple stab wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was tragically pronounced dead at 22:07hrs.

A post‑mortem examination later confirmed the cause of death as multiple sharp‑force injuries.

Enquiries revealed Giovanny had been chased through an alleyway before being cornered and attacked.

Evidence and arrests

Hernandez was arrested at the scene following urgent enquiries by police. Forensic examination of his clothing later revealed the victim’s blood on his tracksuit, as well as damage consistent with contact from a knife. Messages recovered from his phone also showed discussions about destroying evidence and concerns about police activity.

Detectives reviewed more than 1,500 hours of CCTV as part of the investigation, including crucial footage from nearby premises. This helped officers establish that a residential address on Langdale Close was being used as a squat.

Following the attack, Angulo and Boizo fled the address and travelled by taxi to a friend’s home, where CCTV later captured Angulo changing clothing and carrying a bin bag. Prosecutors said this was the disposal of blood‑stained items and weapons.

Gonzalez fled the UK and was arrested near Barcelona on 19, May 2025 before being extradited back to the UK. Jimenez was later arrested in Chichester after fleeing London.

All five men will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 20 May.
