Man charged following a collision in Lewisham
A man has been charged after a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.
Police were called to Southend Lane, Bellingham on Friday, 31 October at 22:13hrs.
It is alleged the car involved in the collision did not stop at the scene.
The pedestrian, a woman aged 65, remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Michael McLaughlin, 38 (19.02.1987) of Heath Park, Buncrana (Republic of Ireland), was arrested on Friday, 7 November on a motorway in Northern Ireland by Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers.
He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.
McLaughlin was escorted to England, where he was interviewed at a south London police station.
He was later charged on Saturday, 8 November with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic collision.
He remains in custody, and will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 10 November.
Specialist are offering support to the family of the pedestrian.
Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigative Unit continue to investigate and are still keen to speak to any potential witnesses of the collision who may have information.
