Man charged in connection with Islington murder investigation

A man has been charged with murder following a Met investigation.

Police were called to Hungerford Road, Islington, at 04:00hrs on Friday, 10 July, following reports of an assault.

Officers attended the scene where 50-year-old Ahmed Jama, from Camden and who was known to family and friends as Jaqanaf, was found with serious head injuries.

He was taken to hospital but despite the efforts of medical staff he was pronounced dead on Wednesday, 15 July. His family continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Mohamed Touitha, 23 (09.05.2003), of Melyn Close, Islington, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, 28 July.

He was charged on Wednesday, 29 July and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning, Thursday, 30 July.

On Wednesday, 22 July a 24-year-old man was arrested in the Islington area on suspicion of murder. He was released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Two women, aged 18 and 19, who were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm on Sunday, 12 July, remain on police bail.
