Men charged following Hackney hate crime incident

Two men have been charged with a religiously aggravated public order offence following an incident in Hackney.

On Thursday, 7 May at around 21:00hrs, police were called to reports of a hate crime with a group of men harassing members of the Jewish community on Clapton Common.

Officers attended within minutes and arrested five men.

Adam Bedoui, 20 (24.05.2005) of Park Lodge Avenue, Hillingdon and Abdelkader Bousloub, 21 (26.02.2005) of Merrivale Mews, Hillingdon were both charged on Saturday, 9 May with a religiously aggravated public order offence and a further public order offence under Section 4a of the Public Order Act.

They have been remanded in custody to appear before Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 9 May.

Two 20-year-old men and a 21-year-old man arrested have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The charge comes as the Met announced a new dedicated Community Protection Team to tackle antisemitic hate crimes.

Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, who leads policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, said:

“Our investigation continues but two men have been charged and will appear in court for their alleged part in this incident.

“We will not tolerate any form of hate crime against our communities.”
