Met announces conditions for Palestine Solidarity Campaign protest

Met sets out conditions ahead of Palestine Coalition protest this weekend.

On Saturday, a procession, organised by the Palestine Coalition, will form up in Piccadilly no earlier than 12:00hrs.

Conditions have been imposed that the procession must not begin until 12:45hrs and must travel via Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, and Cockspur Street.

Following the procession, a rally will take place. This must take place in Whitehall and must conclude by 17:00hrs.

We have imposed conditions under the Public Order Act to minimise the risk of serious disruption. The full details are set out below.

Each event requires a substantial amount of planning in the context of various events and day-to-day business happening across the capital. There have been a regular number of significant protests across London, and this has had a cumulative impact on our communities. The Met’s aim is to protect the lawful right to protest while minimising the impact of these events on those who live, work and visit London.

T/Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dr Alison Heydari, who is leading the policing operation this weekend, said:

“Ahead of the weekend we have been in discussion with the Palestine Coalition, as well as partners, residents, businesses, faith and community groups who we know continue to be impacted by protests.

“We expect this weekend to be very busy with people shopping during the Black Friday sales, and visiting the capital, including Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park. We have worked with organisers to seek to minimise disruption and balance the right to protest.

“Officers will be visible along the protest route and around the wider area to ensure the events take place safely.”
