Met officer to face misconduct hearing following sexual assault conviction

A Met officer will face a misconduct hearing after being convicted of sexual assault.

PC Christopher Gudgeon, 43, attached to the Central South Command Unit, was found guilty of the offence on Friday, 11 September following a trial at Croydon Crown Court.

The incident took place at a south London address on 25 June 2022 when PC Gudgeon was off-duty. The victim contacted police two days later and PC Gudgeon was arrested the same day.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the area, said: “Police officers know that their actions, both on and off duty, are subject to the highest level of scrutiny, and PC Gudgeon’s behaviour was completely unacceptable. Thanks to the woman who came forward, and a thorough investigation by detectives, he has been convicted of a serious offence and will now face a misconduct hearing.”

PC Gudgeon sexually assaulted the female victim – who was known to him - over clothing and forcibly kissed her against her will. He admitted trying to kiss her twice, but lied to the court, claiming that when she rejected his advances he simply left the property.

Sentencing will take place on 20 November at Inner Crown Court.

PC Gudgeon is currently suspended from duty. A misconduct hearing will be held in due course.
