Murder investigation launched following deaths of two women
Detectives investigating the deaths of two women in London have arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of murder.
On Monday, 17 March, police responded to reports of an unresponsive woman in a building in Aylesbury Estate, SE17. Despite the best efforts of emergency workers, including paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, a 53-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Carmenza Trujillo.
A police investigation was launched following a post-mortem examination which was unable to determine a cause of death.
Further enquiries led local officers to arrest a 40-year-old man on suspicion of murder on Tuesday, 1 April. He was released under investigation while extensive enquiries continued.
On Sunday, 24 August at around 07:30hrs, a 39-year-old woman was found unresponsive in High Road, Tottenham. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Sheryl Wilkins.
An investigation began with a post-mortem examination again unable to determine a cause of death.
The 40-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 4 September by the Met’s Specialist Crime team on suspicion of murdering Sheryl and re-arrested on suspicion of murdering Carmenza. He remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, leading the investigation, said: “My sympathy goes to the family and friends of both victims, who have been updated on this development and continue to be supported by specialist officers.
“No woman should feel unsafe in our city, and we know this news will cause concern across communities. Our investigation is continuing at pace and remains a priority.
“I urge anyone who has information relating to either incident to contact us as soon as possible”
