New CCTV footage released in murder appeal

Detectives have released new CCTV footage of a car that was seen near the scene of the murder of 23-year-old Camilo Palacio in Haringey and are issuing a renewed appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who witnessed a distinctive vehicle – a dark Range Rover with a white roof – around the area at the time of the shooting and the days leading up to the incident.

Crimestoppers is now offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that leads to the identification and conviction of those responsible for Camilo’s murder.

Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager at the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Camilo’s family have endured an unimaginable loss, and someone out there knows something that could finally help them get justice. If you remember seeing the distinctive dark Range Rover with a white roof around the time of the murder, or in the days leading up to it, please come forward. Even the smallest detail about this vehicle could be the breakthrough detectives urgently need.

“Crimestoppers are here for anyone who has information about Camilo’s murder and wants to do the right thing and speak up. We offer a way that you can do that without ever having to have any contact with the police or having to make a witness statement.

“You will never be asked for your personal details, but what you share could help provide a key piece of information to help bring justice for Camilo and his family.”

Police were called at around 21:30hrs on Sunday, 24 July 2022 to reports of a shooting on High Road, Wood Green.

Officers attended and found Camilo with gunshot injuries. They immediately provided first aid before being joined by the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, Camilo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Inspector Devan Taylor, who is leading the investigation, said: “It’s been three years since Camilo was killed, and we will not stop until those responsible for his death face justice.

“Camilo was shot on a public street, in a residential area and we believe there may still be people out there who have not spoken to us. We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who remembers seeing the distinctive vehicle and can provide more information about it.

“We understand people may be concerned about talking to the police, which is why we are being supported by Crimestoppers where people can provide information anonymously.

“Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial to our investigation and could lead to us finding and convicting those responsible and getting answers for Camilo’s loved ones.”

Officers investigating the murder reviewed CCTV footage and pieced together Camilo’s last moments on Sunday, 24 July 2022. Camilo, who was wearing a grey tracksuit and white trainers, had been in Stuart Crescent with a friend.

At 21:26hrs, they were seen walking on the footpath towards High Road when the gunshots started. They both ran away but Camilo was hit and fatally wounded.

Shortly before the shooting, the Range Rover was seen driving along Williams Grove and Pellatt Grove, then back towards Stuart Crescent.

The vehicle is seen to leave the area via Ewart Grove and White Hart Lane, it was seen on Turnpike Lane later that evening.

At around 04:00hrs on Monday, 25 July, officers and the London Fire Brigade were called to a vehicle fire in Alexandra Road, Barnet. The vehicle alight was the Range Rover and the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

In total, 11 people have been arrested in connection with the murder investigation and two men have been convicted of perverting the course of justice, however officers have never identified Camilo’s killer.
