Police appeal after fatal collision in Canary Wharf

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following a fatal road traffic collision in Canary Wharf.

Police were called at 21:57hrs on Thursday, 30 October to reports of a collision between a pedestrian and car on Aspen Way, Canary Wharf.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the pedestrian, a 26-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

It is believed the victim was crossing the road with two friends, when he was hit by a blue Ford Focus. The driver of the car left the scene before officers arrived.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on Friday, 31 October on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, possession of an offensive weapon and failing to stop. He has since been released on bail.

Detective Sergeant Ed Rulton, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victim during this tragic time.

"Officers are working hard to piece together what happened that evening but we'd like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or were in the area at the time and noticed anything unusual.

"We urge you to come forward and let us know, even the smallest piece of information could make a difference."
