Three charged following arrests for 'intifada' chanting
Three people have been charged following incidents where officers intervened after chants calling for an ‘intifada’ were heard at a protest in central London.
The details of those charged are as follows:
Abdallah Alanzi, 24 (26.07.01), of Fortunegate Road, Brent
Haya Adam, 21 (26.04.04), of Edgware Road, Westminster
Azza Zaki, 60 (20.08.65), of Edgware Road, Westminster
All three were charged today (Monday, 26 January) with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour intending thereby to stir up racial hatred or, having regard to all the circumstances, whereby racial hatred was likely to be stirred up, contrary to sections 18(1) and 27(3) of the Public Order Act 1986.
They will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 February.
Alanzi, Adam and Zaki were arrested at a protest outside the Ministry of Justice in Petty France, Westminster on the evening of Wednesday, 17 December after they were identified as being allegedly involved in chanting calling for an ‘intifada’.
An investigation was subsequently launched by the Met’s Public Order Crime team which considered not just that specific chant but other chanting heard during the course of the protest. The charges that have been authorised reflect the totality of the alleged offending on that evening.
No further action will be taken against a 17-year-old boy who was arrested on the same night.
