UPDATE: Boy charged with attempted murder over school stabbing
A 13-year-old boy has been charged in connection with an attack on three other pupils at a school in Brent on Tuesday, 10 February.
Following authorisation from the Crown Prosecution Service, the boy was charged late on Wednesday, 11 February with:
- Attempted murder of ‘Child A’, contrary to Section 1(1) Criminal Attempts Act 1981.
- Attempted murder ‘Child B’ contrary to Section 1(1) Criminal Attempts Act 1981.
- Unlawfully and maliciously administering to ‘Child C’ a noxious thing - namely spraying insect spray in Child C’s face - with intent to aggrieve or annoy the said Child C, contrary to section 24 of the Offences against the Person Act 1861.
- Possession of a knife on a school premises, without good reason or lawful authority, contrary to section 139A(1) and (5) of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
The boy is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Youth Court later this morning - Thursday, 12 February.
T/Commander Helen Flanagan, from Counter Terrorism Policing London, said:
“These are extremely serious charges against a young boy, and we continue to support the victims and their families, as well as the wider school community following this shocking incident. While we have now charged the boy with these offences, our investigation is ongoing and detectives will continue to carry out enquiries in the local area. We are working closely with local policing colleagues in the Brent area and I would also like to thank the school and the wider local community for their support in recent days.”
On Tuesday, 10 February at approximately 12:40hrs, police were called to Kingsbury High School in NW9, Brent to reports that two students had been stabbed. Two boys – aged 12 and 13 – were taken to hospital with stab wounds. They remain in hospital in a stable condition.
Due to circumstances surrounding the incident, the investigation was passed to Counter Terrorism Policing London, although at this time, it has not been declared as a terrorist incident.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested around 16:15hrs in the NW10 area on 10 February and he has since been charged as above.
