“We’ve accepted the challenge – will you?”

The Met has launched a major Police Constable recruitment campaign, calling on Londoners from all backgrounds to step forward and join the thousands of officers who serve communities across the capital every day.

With a starting salary of more than £43,000, new recruits undertake training that combines classroom learning with practical, on-the-job experience, working alongside experienced officers in local policing teams. Those joining through the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship also work towards a fully funded degree while serving as operational officers.

The campaign, featuring 24 serving officers from across the organisation, provides an honest insight into the realities of modern policing. It highlights both the challenges and rewards of the role and showcases the courage, compassion and commitment required to help keep London safe.

Last year saw the most inclusive intake of recruits in the Met’s history. Building on that progress, the campaign aims to attract talented people from every part of London and encourage those who may never previously have considered policing as a career.

Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said: “Few careers offer the chance to change lives every single day. Policing is one of them.

"Every day across London, Met officers change lives. They protect the vulnerable, fight crime, support victims through the worst moments of their lives and stand up to those who seek to cause harm. It is challenging work, but it is also some of the most rewarding work imaginable.

"We want the very best people from every corner of our city to consider joining us. People with different experiences, different perspectives and a shared determination to serve others.

"There is talent in every borough, every neighbourhood and every community. If you have ever wondered whether you could do this job, my message is simple: don't count yourself out.

"You do not need to have all the answers. What matters is your integrity, your compassion, your resilience and your willingness to step forward and serve.

"The future of policing London will be shaped by the people who choose to join us today. We've accepted the challenge of keeping London safe. If you share that sense of purpose, we would love you to join us."

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “In London, our diversity is our greatest strength. We need a police service that represents all of London’s communities to retain public confidence, strengthen trust and build on the significant progress we have made tackling crime.

“Policing is a job like no other. You can help impact so many lives for the better. And be there when it counts - when Londoners need you most.

“I would encourage Londoners of all backgrounds, skills and experience to consider a career in policing and be part of creating a bigger and better Met and a safer London for everyone.”

Policing is demanding, but it offers a unique opportunity to serve London, support communities and make a lasting difference. Search ‘Met Careers’ to find out more and take the first step towards a career with purpose.
